What to Expect When Parenting Children with ADHD

A 9-Step Plan to Master the Struggles and Triumphs of Parenting Kids with ADHD

When a child is diagnosed with ADHD, parents are told very little about the disorder, offered a few handouts and a prescription, and sent back out into the world with a diagnosis but very little added perspective on how to parent this special child. Doctors don’t tell parents that ADHD medication is just trial and error until something seems to help, if anything actually helps at all. They don’t tell you how to work with the child’s school to create the most appropriate educational environment for a student with ADHD. They certainly don’t tell you what causes meltdowns and how to prevent them.

And so parents of ADHD children start a difficult journey without a map. They can read some books that mostly cover “What is ADHD?” but little more.  They can stalk some forums online and try to learn from parents. Honestly, they are just left to try to figure it out as they go and learn from mistakes. No parent wants to make mistakes with their child.

245_IBAwinnerwhitesmalljpegThere’s a book all about What to Expect When You’re Expecting, but there’s no book that tells the God’s-honest truth about the challenges and emotional turmoil of raising a child with ADHD and/or special needs… until now!

Author Penny Williams wrote the guide on What to Expect When Parenting Children with ADHD. This is an honest manual that chronicles the ups and downs of parenting a child with ADHD from diagnosis, through the muck of figuring it all out, and then landing in a good place where positivity is a frequent companion. Learn the tools this unapologetic, initially grief-stricken Momma used to transform from obsessed-with-ADHD control-freak and helicopter mom to optimistic and {mostly} confident parent of a child who happens to have ADHD. Learn from her failures and triumphs to make your time on the learning curve of parenting a child with ADHD a little easier.
